[I made these refreshing Blood Orange Kombucha Spritzers for Earth Fare!]
I’m gonna be honest with you. I used to drink a lot of alcohol.
I absolutely believe that alcohol in moderation is ok (two thumbs up if it’s red wine!) But in excess, it can really be harmful for our health. And “excess” was the amount of alcohol I used to drink on a regular basis. As my husband used to describe my drinking habits, I wasn’t very good at “hitting the brakes.”
So it’s sort of ironic (or maybe not) that I can’t drink alcohol at all now due to my ongoing health issues. But I still like to have something fun to sip on when I’m hanging out with friends.
These Blood Orange Kombucha Spritzers are a perfect (and pretty) alternative to alcohol and soda when you’re at a party or just hanging out with friends.
Kombucha is a fermented beverage made from tea. And it actually does contain a TEENSY-TINY bit of alcohol.
Due to the fermentation process, kombucha is naturally fizzy and full of gut healthy probiotics. We know that good health starts in the gut, and including probiotic-rich foods in our diet can help:
- Improve digestion and immune health
- Increase energy levels and aid in weight loss
- Amp up the body’s detoxification system
A cold glass of kombucha is delicious on its own, but I love to sass it up just a little with the season’s most beautiful citrus—blood oranges!
No one can resist beautiful blood oranges, not even Damos the cat. 😺
If you’ve never had them, blood oranges are vibrantly colored and intensely flavored citrus superstars. I obsessively hoard them when they come around each year. It’s an irrational FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) but you never can have too many blood oranges, in my opinion.
You just have to find creative ways to use them up, if you happen to buy 100 or so at a time.
In my eyes there’s no better way to celebrate blood oranges and all of their beauty than a quick kombucha spritzer! You literally just have to squeeze the oranges + a lime or two, and combine the juice with your favorite kombucha and a little bit of sparkling water.
Pop in a few sprigs of fresh mint (mostly for aesthetic flair) and you’ve got yourself one pretty little spritzer.
That’s as easy—as it is healthy—as it is beautiful.
And tasty too (duh).
All of the healthy hydration, with none of the hangover. What’s not to love?
- Juice from 2 blood oranges
- Juice from ½ a lime
- 1 cup kombucha (I used Health Ade Ginger Lemon flavor)
- ½ cup sparkling water
- Mint to garnish (optional)
- Add orange juice, lime juice, kombucha, and sparkling water to a bowl or small pitcher and stir to combine.
- Pour over ice and garnish with orange slices and mint.
